Well, almost halfway. I'll be 18 weeks on Friday (in two days) and we won't go past 38 weeks so that means officially halfway next Friday.
But on to the important stuff...an update!
Things have been going relatively well and boring, which is partly why I haven't posted much this time around. Also partly because I've been a lazy ass. Let's be honest.
John and I decided to go ahead and do the MaterniT21 screen and the Cystic Fibrosis screen so I did those recently at the doctor's. The MT21 is just a simple blood draw. The CF test is swishing 50ml of Scope mouthwash for 60 sec and then spitting it into a container that gets sent off and tested. Sounds easy enough? I think it's secretly a form of torture. First of all, keeping anything in your mouth for longer than about 5 sec when you're pregnant (with twins no less) without initiating gagging is hard enough. But have you ever swished Scope for 60 sec!?! If you read the "normal" directions on a bottle, it says to swish for 30 sec. Why not 60, you may ask? Because it will SEAR THE TASTEBUDS OFF OF YOUR TONGUE!!! I was convinced, probably a good 40-45 sec in that when I was finished, there'd be nothing left but a nub of a tongue.
But I survived. Interestingly enough, my results came back that I'm a carrier of CF. I'd never done that test before so never knew. The nurse said that even if John happened to also be a carrier, the risk is only 25% but they'll just have the MFM take an extra closer look at the babies' lungs to check for any other signs or markers and not to worry.
The MT21 came back low risk for everything else (all of the Trisomies). John, after lots of debating and back and forth, decided that he'd like to go ahead and do the gender check with the MT21. The way that works, is they test for the presence of Y chromosomes. In a singleton pregnancy, they're either there (boy!) or not (girl!). It's trickier in a twin pregnancy though because if Y chromosomes are detected, it could mean a boy/girl pair OR two boys. The only sure gender predictor is of there is an absence of Y chromosomes, meaning two girls.
The nurse asked if we still wanted to know. I said yes. She said, "No presence of Y chromosomes detected."
TWO PRECIOUS LITTLE LADIES!!!
John is beyond excited!
Otherwise, everything else is going well. Little to no nausea. In fact, I really only had/have it in the mornings if I wait to long to eat so it seems to be mostly blood sugar related. I have started having SPD pain again, but I've been managing it and staying on top of it with weekly chiropractic, so it's staying mild. Only other thing I can "complain" about is that I've just recently in the last few days or so been feeling the heaviness/discomfort of pregnancy kick in as my belly grows. It's been harder to get comfy at night to fall asleep and I'm achy when I wake up in the night to readjust or pee and wake up in the morning. But, with any pregnancy you expect the general discomfort to hit eventually and with twins, it's no surprise. So I'm doing pretty dang great.
We have our anatomy scan in about a month on October 27. John is flying in for that. We'll also determine then if there is one or two placentas. Dr. Hinds said that if there's one, we'll schedule the cesarean for 36 weeks and if there're two, at 38 weeks. So unless my body decides it time before then, we'll have early to mid February babies!
I'll try to be better about updates too. ;)
