I haven't posted anything in a couple of weeks because with my husband being gone, things have been a little crazy around here. Of course, it's always more difficult to take care of two kids, two dogs, and the household when he's away (my husband is a fantastic partner when it comes to child care and housework) but this time it's been exponentially worsened by the fact that I'm pregnant. And my "little to complain about" post may have been a bit premature.
The fatigue has been there all along and I was able to manage it pretty well with a little nap midday. Of course, with my husband out of the picture that hasn't been easy to get in. It also seems like the minute he got on the plane, the nausea set in too. I fortunately haven't actually been sick yet but I definitely get my waves of nausea coming over me. Sometimes it's just enough to make me feel crappy and sometimes it's strong enough that I find myself hovering over the sink or trash can, breathing heavily and rhythmically attempting to squash it before it actually decides to make an appearance. Taking my vitamins and brushing my teeth (and sometimes even blowing my nose when I'm stopped up - YUCK) have become tasks that must be slowly and meticulously performed.
Now let's talk about something that no one wants to talk about - constipation and bloating. Yep, that's right. I think I'm finally getting things down there under control but it's been a battle. In fact, there was a day about a week ago that my gut hurt so badly from being backed up that I seriously contemplated going to the walk-in or hospital for some miracle relief. I will say that thank goodness I didn't have to deal with hemorrhoids on top of the constipation!
Anyway I sometimes looked like I had a reverse pregnancy with my upper abdomen being so distended from gas that it stuck out further than my lower abdomen. It would be hard and I'd be really uncomfortable. That would usually happen more at the end of the day, when all of my foods from the day had piled up. Throughout all of this, it's important to note that I'm eating foods with fiber, drinking TONS of water and even taking Colace, a stool softener, every day. All to no avail. I'm just now finally to a point where it's bearable but I still often feel uncomfortable by the end of the day or for a bit shortly after a meal.
The silver lining in all of this is that it comes and goes in waves so it's not constant. And the last couple of days have been better, probably because I'm getting used to it and learning to manage it better.
Oh well. The ultrasound is in four days so I'm excited for that! :)
