Well we have officially been in Albuquerque for four days now and it's been a whirlwind. Friday we unloaded all of our household goods into the storage unit that we're renting. Saturday Sorrell and I cleaned MIL's kitchen from head to toe and yesterday did the living room. That's a big undertaking!! Not only does she have a TON of stuff that we have to clean and then sort through between donate, keep, and sell, but she hasn't been able to really clean the house since her husband died five or six years ago so the cleaning alone is a task. She really needed our help more than we knew.
What will be the kid's room is still packed full of stuff that we need to go through as well so for now, we're all four sleeping on air mattresses in our bedroom. We're still sort of living out of boxes, although today I did hang up and sort the clothes that we brought with us in the closet so it feels a little more normal and permanent than just living out of suitcases. Once the kid's room is situated, we'll be able to really start settling in, getting things organized and bring some more clothes and what not over from storage that we plan to have with us here.
This morning I went and enrolled Amara in school here and while I miss their last school (it was an amazing International Baccalaureate school), this one doesn't look so bad. She is in a dual language program so half of the day is taught in English and the other half is taught in Spanish. That will be a great benefit for the kids to be bilingual!! They did Spanish and Chinese at their last school but it was just a class, not immersion teaching like this. School lunches are free for all of the students which is always a nice thing! Lol. Tomorrow, she gets to ride the bus if she's ready...that she'll be super excited for!
As far as the surrogacy goes, things are still chugging along. I found out that my test strips I've been using to monitor my cycle were ruined in the cold Wednesday night when we stopped at a hotel to rest and I didn't think to bring them in. So according to my monitor, I'm stuck at high fertility and haven't hit peak fertility. Fortunately, I'm very in tuned with my body and have outward signs of ovulation (such as discharge change, etc) and was able to tell that I ovulated around day 16 of my cycle. Last month was day 16 too. Normally I would ovulate on day 14 but both cycles since stopping birth control this time have been day 16 so I'll just roll with it since I can't use the monitor to tell me any differently. It isn't SUPER imperative that I know the exact day since Dr. K will ultimately control it come IUI time anyway. If we don't make this month for IUI then I'll be able to get a new pack of test strips and use the monitor again to help know for sure.
Jonathon is back in Dallas today and tomorrow to make two more donations for the IUI. They'll be testing them again so hopefully all will still look good, if not better, and we will still be advised to move forward with IUI instead of IVF first.
So, I'm going to go back to cleaning, organizing, and sleeping (this altitude change makes me sleepy as I adjust) and wait to hear from somebody about setting up my life insurance policy and reviewing contracts!
