Well yesterday was certainly a nice and adventurous day! Jonathan came into town Sunday evening so we spent some time discussing what it might be like when I'm in labor and during and after delivery. He still thinks I'm crazy for wanting an unmedicated birth. lol But at least he's on board and supportive!
Our ultrasound appointment wasn't until 3pm on Monday. We had made arrangements for him to meet my doula, Kate, for coffee at 10:30 up by the hospital. That was so nice because not only did he get to meet her, but she also brought Jericka, her back up in case for some reason she's unavailable when I go into labor. We discussed things like what Jonathan can do to help during labor and how Kate will help him if he's feeling 'in the way'. Also comfort measures for me, more about what he can expect from the process with me not being medicated, signs that it's time to head to the hospital, and she also helped stress to him that before he makes a decision on things like delaying first bath, Vitamin K shots, eye ointment, etc, it's important that he educate himself on the options and the pros and cons of both so that he can make an informed decision that works best for him.
After our meeting, we decided to stop by Dr. Hinds' office to see if he could at least put a face to the name. Fortunately, Dr. Hinds was free when we got there so he actually sat down and spent some time talking with Jonathan and assuring him that I was a PERFECT candidate for VBAC and felt that I'd rock it.
Just as we were wrapping things up, it came up in the conversation that we had hoped to get a L&D tour but they only offered them on Sundays and Wednesdays but Jonathan was only in town for the day. Then Dr. Hinds did something awesome...he called over to L&D on his cell phone, asked the nurse if they were busy and when she said they weren't he said that he was walking over a couple of patients and wanted them to give us a tour! So he walked us from his office to L&D (he's in the doctors building attached to the hospital) and they gave Jonathan and me a tour! It was so nice.
After we were all finished with that, we went to get some lunch before our appointment. Then it was time to see baby!
Everything was looking perfect with baby and he is growing right on track...measuring to the day even! Oh, and they double checked: it's definitely still a boy. lol

They did notice a small superficial placental 'hemorrhage' (though the doctor said they use that term loosely). Basically, it's a 2cm dark spot on the placenta that is a collection of blood and tissue matter. He said that they happen sometimes and usually go away on their own and since baby is doing great, he isn't concerned about it. He's just gonna have me come back in 3 weeks to both check the size again and also to try to get some clearer pictures of baby's heart. Baby didn't want to cooperate with the sonographer and kept staying in a position where she was able to get views of the heart that looked fine but the doc just wants some better views to confidently say everything looks great.
Speaking of baby not cooperating....
Since he was in a uncooperative position the whole time, she kept coming back to heart in hopes that he had shifted enough to get better pictures so the whole appointment ended up taking 2 hours!! That put us on the road at rush hour, trying to get to the airport in time for Jonathan's flight. We didn't make it. :(
By the time we got there, his flight had departed about 10 to 15 minutes prior. So we went to the ticketing counter only to find out that the next flight out wasn't until 5:45 in the morning. Jonathan had to come back to the house with me for the night. I woke up at 3:30am to take him back to the airport but Sorrell woke up to. He's the type who can't fall back asleep after he wakes up, whereas, I can, so he decided that he'd take Jonathan to the airport so that I could get some rest.
So we said our goodbyes and they headed out.
Overall, it was a great day though and it was really nice getting to spend the time with Jonathan. We also discussed him (and his mom) coming down around 39 weeks so that they'll be here when I go into labor. I'm excited at the prospect that the remaining time until then should go pretty quickly because we've both got a lot going on the next couple of months and then it's the holidays, which always go by quickly, and then...it's gonna be almost baby time!!!
