Bets are out for bean counts and sex guesses! Before I had even gone for my first beta blood draw, I asked my husband and daughter what they thought I was going to have (one or two, boy or girl) because they seem to have an innate ability to detect those things. My husband called my pregnancy with my son (he's the one who insisted that I take a test) and also said we were having twins with the last surrogacy. My daughter, Amara, said that we were having twins, one boy and one girl, well before we even knew!! So I asked them again. BOTH of them independently said they believed it was one girl.
I don't know about the sex but even after our high beta on Friday and everyone (including Stephanie at Simple) insisting that it's twins, I couldn't help but just FEEL that there's just one little bean in there. I've kind of kept it to myself, assuming that it might be me wanting it to be one and thus basically being in denial that it could actually be two again.
This morning I went for my second beta. To kill time during the day waiting for the results, I decided to use my betas and doubling times with the twins to do some involved mathematics to determine roughly what my beta would have been today (17dpo) with the them. I didn't actually have a beta draw 17dpo with them but my 18dpo beta was 1392. So anyway, after numerous calculations, I figured out that had I done a draw on 17dpo with them it would have been somewhere around 996. (With a 14dpo draw having been around 301 - slightly higher than Friday's but not by much.)
Well today's beta is doubling just fine...in fact, perfectly with a doubling time just over 60 hours!! It was 594!
I'm kind of loving that nice low number. LOL. I still know that anything is possible and only the ultrasound will tell us for sure but with that number, I'm sticking to my original gut feeling that there's just one baby growing. :) And for now, it's healthy so that's just awesome.
