Friday was 24 weeks!! I had an OB appointment on Thursday. BP was great and had only gained a pound. Talked with Dr. Hinds and a Nurse Practitioner he had shadowing him that day. He asked if he could tell her about me being a surro and I of course said sure so we talked about that for a bit. Dr. Hinds told me to keep being perfect and see me in four weeks. :)
My next appointment will be time for the gestational diabetes test so I told him that I wanted to discuss glucola alternatives because of the ingredients in it. I told him that I was open to a real-food alternative or even doing daily blood sugar tests for a week. He was totally cool with the real-food option. He did say to still pick up the glucola at the lab because other wise it messes up with the way the lab tracks everything but just to not drink it and instead, on the morning of my test, eat my alternative and have them draw my blood an hour after I finish it. Boy, I'm glad he was cool with the alternative because as I expected, the brand their lab uses still has Brominated Vegetable Oil (BVO) in it!!! Yikes. Why would I want to consume something that is in the same family as flame retardants and has been banned for human consumption in basically every other country (and even removed from most sodas here in the US) not pregnant...let alone with a precious little bean growing inside of me and relying on me to keep him safe!? So fortunately I'll be having 6oz of organic grape juice and a banana for my test instead.
So anyway, today was our follow up ultrasound at North Austin Maternal Fetal Medicine to try to get better views of Bean's heart and also just check up on those venous lakes (superficial placental hemorrhages) they saw on the placenta last time. At first, he was feet down and still not in a good position to get a clear look at the heart. After some time of the tech trying to see it and pushing and jiggling my belly to try to get him to turn to no avail, I told her to give me a second. I got up off of the table and did a quick 30 second inversion in the chair (which I try to do daily to keep my uterus in alignment and help favor a head down position for baby). The whole time the tech was giggling at me saying I was too funny but I told her to wait and see...it'll work! lol
Finally, I got back up on the table when I was finished and she put more goo on my belly and when she put the probe back on, sure enough, he was head down! Ha! Then she was able to get all of the shots needed. His heart rate is 137bpm, he weighs 1 pound 12 ounces (almost a pound heavier from the 15oz he weighed three weeks ago!), heart looked great and the venous lakes were completely gone. The doctor said everything was perfect and he didn't need to see me again.
So we're chugging along nice and wonderfully!

Look at that adorable little face peeking through behind his arm!!
After the ultrasound, Sorrell and I went to a Comfort Measures in Labor class that was taught by my doula, Kate, and her partner, Jerrika. Even though chances are that Sorrell will be taking care of the kiddos while I'm in labor and Kate and Jonathan will be more of my support, he came with me to help learn some positions and things he can do with me while I'm pregnant. And just for support because he's wonderful like that! ;)
It was a lot of fun and some of the things we did felt soooo good! lol

Now back to the normal day to day in the meantime, just waiting for baby to keep cooking.
