There has been a minor set back in things but we're still on track. When we were in Texas, Jonathan had to give his sample for them to test, wash and freeze for the IUIs. He ended up giving two separate samples. Well, it turned out the the first sample wasn't the best (not horrible but not really good). The second one was much better but the clinic needs more. So they told him to just go to a local clinic near him, give two more samples and have them shipped down to Texas. Well, apparently all of his local clinics require sperm to be quarantined for six months before they'll ship it out of state. Clearly that's not an option!
So Jonathan has to go back to the clinic in Texas on the 6th and 7th of January to give more samples. They did suggest that in the meantime he go to a local clinic to have his sperm tested again to see if it's the lower quality of the first sample he gave or if it is more like the second sample or better. While both of them could be worked with, if the quality isn't the best, they would recommend going IVF instead since they have more control over it. Obviously IUI still leaves a lot more up to pure chance because the sperm and egg have to find each other on their own. With IVF, the doctors do all of the initial leg work for them.
Jonathan and I spoke on the phone today and he said that he was probably going to go ahead and get his sample tested but that regardless, he'd probably want to try for at least one IUI anyway to see what happens. Then we can discuss IVF.
That makes sense because not only is IUI less expensive but it's much easier. I take Clomid, have some ultrasounds done to measure the size of follicles, take my HCG shot and then 36 hours later they simply deposit the sperm into my uterus and we wait and see. With IVF I would have to take hormone meds to produce more eggs, they'd retrieve them and mix them with Jonathans sperm. Meanwhile, I'll be taking other meds to get my uterus ready for implantation. When they have a healthy embryo(s), they'll transfer. And then again, we wait. I am fine with either procedure. I just want Jonathan to be able to have a baby as quickly and least expensively as possible.
So we'll see what his sperm test reveals and figure out the plan from there. Regardless of which method we end up using, it probably won't be before the last week of February. That might be better anyway. We'll be settled in Albuquerque by then and maybe I'll actually lose this damn 10 pounds that I've ALREADY managed to put on from the holidays!!
