Yesterday morning I woke up and noticed some mucous discharge. That's a great sign of ovulation! The family and I all got dressed and packed up, checked out of the hotel and headed over to the clinic. We went in at 8:15am for the IUI and walked out by 9:05. Dr. Elkins said that the sample looked good after the thawing process so it's all up to Mother Nature now!
After the appointment, we hit the road to head back to the ABQ. In the car I was doing some reading on the average timing of everything after an insemination. Turns out that the fastest swimmers can reach the egg within 45 minutes (go little guys, go!) and the slower ones can take up to 12 hours. So, if the IUI worked then the process is already well on the way. It takes another 2-3 days after fertilization for the egg to travel down the fallopian tube to the uterus and start implanting itself. Once that is complete the hCG will start being produced, which is what is picked up on a pregnancy test. That's what we have to wait for...enough hCG to get our BFP!
In the meantime, I'm "testing out" the trigger shot. It's made up of synthetic hCG and so until it's out of my system, I will actually get a positive test even if I'm not preggers. What I'm doing is taking a test everyday until I actually get a negative. That way when I test later in the cycle, if I get a positive again, I'll know that it's because we're pregnant and not from the Ovidrel. Typically the Ovidrel stays in the system from 6 to 14 days. Last journey I didn't test it out but got a negative on my first test at 9 days post trigger shot.
This is the sucky part....the days go by sooooooooooo slowly! Lol. I'd like to just skip this week, pleaseandthankyou. While I sit and twiddle my thumbs, I'll just keeping thinking sticky baby thoughts.
