A couple of weeks ago I emailed Stephanie to just check in and see what she had heard from the psychiatrist. She said that he was happy to report that I don't talk to people who aren't there or lick windows. :)
She also said that the egg donor that Grant and Russ were working with fell through so they were searching for another one and then we'd be on track for baby.
I emailed the guys to just let them know that I had talked to Stephanie and wished them luck and ease in finding another donor. I also reminded them that I was still open to a traditional surrogacy where they actually used my eggs.
When we met Grant and Russ here are our house, I asked them if they were planning on doing a gestational (egg donor) or traditional (my eggs) surrogacy since in my application, I selected that I was open to either. They said that they had though they'd just stick to gestational because they figured it might be harder on the surrogate emotionally is she were genetically related to the child as opposed to just simply being a carrier. I understood where they were coming from and just wanted them to know that I was open to either.
I didn't hear back from them for about a week or so until I got an email from Russ on Friday saying that they wanted to give me a call and were wondering when I'd be available to talk. I told them that I was free anytime so they gave me a call Friday evening.
We discussed a lot of things. Turns out, I guess the first donor just couldn't ever be reached by Dr. Kaufmann's office to set up an appointment for over a week and so they just dropped her. Thier second pick had just donated in May so she couldn't donate again until September and since she was starting classes in the fall, she didn't want to donate and miss classes. So they went through the selection process again and found another girl who said she was interested but they hadn't done any medical screening or anything. That's when they got my email.
They were interested in considering the option for traditional surrogacy. They asked me how I felt about it versus a gestational one. I said that while I understood the importance of genetics, it's just science to me and so my egg or someone else's would be no different. Either way, it's not my baby. Genetics are relative when it comes to emotional connection.
Anyway, we discussed the testing they had done on their sperm at the IVF clinic. Grant's hadn't proven to be very mobile so they had another appointment in mid August to recheck. At that point, they'll know if they can use both sperm or just Russ's and they can make a decision on what to do.
