In an effort to help ease the pain I've been suffering from, I went out and bought an exercise ball to sit on. I had one when I was pregnant with both of my children and it provided a lot of relief toward the end of the pregnancy (and during labor) when there was more pressure in my pelvis.
It helped a little but not enough to notice a difference. I finally broke and called my OB to see if I should come in. She had me come in to rule out a bladder infection, bleeding, or any other underlying problem. Everything checked out fine and both heartbeats were good. So I questioned her about my pain. She believes at this point that it's a temporary pain I'm feeling from the combination of my uterus and ligaments stretching so fast to accommodate the twins and the transition that my uterus is making from a pelvic organ to an abdominal one.
My fingers are crossed that she's right and this will get better in a couple of weeks but I'm a little skeptical and think this might still turn out to be SPD, just because of the combination of symptoms that I'm suffering from.
In the meantime, I'm going to keep assuming that it's pelvic instability and take measures to deal with the discomfort. I'm still sitting on my ball. I made an appointment with my chiropractor for Monday. I increased to support of the pillows between my knees at night (which actually seemed to help a little last night) and I even found the most recommended sacroiliac support belt for SPD and ordered one to see if it helps on a more continual basis.
But I am still clinging on to hope that my doctor is right and this will all just pass soon and I'll start to feel better. Otherwise, this could be a very long six months.
