Apparently, even though it is completely legal in the state of Florida, clinics down here don't like traditional surrogacies so it's hard to find ones that will do the monitoring. I had an appointment set up for today at 1:30pm to do my baseline ultrasound at a fertility clinic in Sarasota. Russ called them this morning to make the payment and was told that I could not be accommodated. We never said anything about it being a traditional surrogacy so perhaps the orders had something on them to hint at it. Either way, they realized that it's a TS and don't want to have any involvement in it.
Honestly, Russ and I are pretty sure that it's because they are a gay couple just from the way the lady at the clinic handled it. First they said that they don't do traditional surrogacies, then she said that they couldn't fit me in to the schedule. When Russ replied back with the fact that I had a confirmed appointment for today, the lady said "well we sent a fax to the clinic in Texas telling them that we couldn't get her in to be seen." Russ spoke with Rebecca at FWF and Rebecca said the only fax she had received was yesterday when they said they couldn't get me in on Tuesday but that was because the doctor was at the satellite office all day.
Ugh! Why do people have to be so closed minded?
Anyway, Russ is now frantically trying to find another clinic in the Tampa Bay area that will see me. If that fails, I just may be flying out today to either Tennessee where Russ has an OB/Gyn friend who can do it, or to Texas to see Dr. Kaufmann.
